With 47 professors and 10 teachers, the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering is responsible for numerous programs and courses within the institution: the Bachelor of Industrial Engineering program, professional master’s and specialized graduate programs (DESS) in industrial engineering, master’s research and doctoral programs in industrial engineering and applied mathematics, as well as all mathematics and complementary studies courses.


This position will address the teaching needs of courses belonging to the industrial engineering and research program in the fields of industrial data analytics and decision-making, with regard to production, transportation, handling, storage and project management processes. The position thus concerns all aspects of those processes, including ergonomics, health and safety, maintenance, product traceability, as well as operational and project management, planning and control. Moreover, this position’s activities fall within the framework of research conducted by the Poly-Industries 4.0 Laboratory and demonstrate Polytechnique’s interest in Industry 4.0, as illustrated by the many research projects conducted by Polytechnique’s professors regarding industry’s digital transition.


The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the duties of this position with a dynamic and creative approach. In particular, he or she will:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate students;
  • Carry out innovative research projects;
  • Obtain grants and contracts aimed at training highly qualified personnel through research work;
  • Publish the scientific results of his or her research;
  • Participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department;
  • Collaborate with other research teams within Polytechnique Montréal or with other institutions;
  • Contribute to the influence of Polytechnique Montréal in Québec and internationally.


The Department is seeking a professor with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Data preparation and cleansing;
  • Industrial data analysis and mining;
  • Prediction model, statistical learning, machine learning, artificial intelligence, recommender systems;
  • Industrial data visualization;
  • Production, manufacturing, logistical, handling, storage or project management processes.

The successful candidate must hold a degree in industrial engineering or the equivalent, and a doctorate (Ph.D.) in a relevant field. He or she is registered as a Professional Engineer with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), or will take the necessary measures to register prior to applying for tenure. Polytechnique Montréal will provide the necessary assistance and support for the successful candidate to become a registered member of the OIQ and to learn French.

He or she must demonstrate excellent research and teaching skills. Relevant industrial experience is an asset. Polytechnique Montréal recognizes that career breaks such as maternity leaves, parental leaves, extended sick leaves, clinical trainings, as well as disabilities, can impact productivity and research achievements. Since the language of instruction is French, the successful candidate must have sufficient proficiency in spoken and written French.


This faculty position is tenure-track. Salary and benefits will be set in accordance with the collective agreement in effect (Association des professeurs de l'École Polytechnique - APEP).
