Polytechnique is seeking two professors for the creation of a Research Chair to consolidate materials engineering activities, in the fields of metal recycling and additive manufacturing from metal powders. The two professors will become co-holders of the Chair and will develop a research program in the two fields, respectively.
The successful candidates will be expected to carry out the duties of these positions with a dynamic and creative approach. In particular, they will:
- demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels;
- carry out innovative research projects;
- obtain grants and contracts aimed at training highly qualified personnel through research work;
- participate in the teaching activities of undergraduate and graduate engineering courses;
- initiate and carry out impactful projects in their field of expertise;
- supervise undergraduate and graduate students;
- establish collaborations with other Polytechnique research teams, industry, and parapublic and public organizations (government departments, RCMs and municipalities);
- contribute to the influence of Polytechnique Montréal in Québec and internationally.
AREA OF EXPERTISE
Both successful candidates who will hold the Materials Engineering Chair have excellent knowledge of the following two fields, respectively:
- metal recycling, with research in new recycling processes incorporating thermodynamic and kinetic aspects;
- additive manufacturing from metal powders, with research that could include designing new metal alloys, applying the powders and using them to manufacture fine parts.
The Chair’s duration is five years. Its co-holders will benefit from a start-up fund to establish their research program.
The Chair’s co-holders will join the Department that best matches their research activities and teaching interests.
Fall 2019 or as soon as the successful candidates become available.
The successful candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate (Ph.D.) in engineering or in a relevant field.
They are registered as Professionals Engineers with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), or they will take the necessary measures to register prior to applying for tenure. Candidates must demonstrate excellent research and teaching skills. Relevant industry experience is an asset. Given that the teaching language is French, the successful candidates will be fluent in French, both spoken and written, before applying for tenure. Polytechnique Montréal will provide the necessary assistance and support for the successful candidates to become a registered member of the OIQ and to learn French.
