POLYTECHNIQUE MONTRÉAL INTERNATIONAL (POINT)

POINT's mission is to ensure the creation, coordination, and implementation of Polytechnique Montréal's internationalization strategy. The latter mission includes building and maintaining an international profile based on Polytechnique Montréal’s unique expertise in education, research, university administration, and overall innovation. To strengthen notoriety, affirm leadership, and increase appeal, Polytechnique Montréal International has three (3) international priorities:

  • Develop partnerships with leading institutions around the world that share its values, in order to make real its vision of becoming a world-class institution;
  • Build a Polytechnique-specific identity which is recognized beyond the Francophonie, via establishment of a network with international institutions par excellence;

ROLE

The successful candidate will lead the deployment of POINT's strategy internationally, and will be responsible for leadership, as well as guiding a team of specialized international development advisers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the human resources of their team. Establish priorities and provide the coaching required to reach goals. Assess and verify their team’s work, and make any necessary corrections, manage developmental needs as per operational priorities, and promote personnel skills development;
  • Contribute to positive work relations and promote the development of healthy, respectful relations, as well as the maintenance of a positive work environment within teams under their jurisdiction;
  • Is responsible for the strategic development, administration, and management of draft agreements and inter-institutional contracts at the international level. Is also responsible for the development of student and faculty mobility programs between Polytechnique Montréal and other foreign universities;
  • Advise, strategically, Polytechnique's University Executive, services, departments, and other divisions, to establish international partnerships;
  • Propose and identify strategic alliances opportunities and establish new partnerships;
  • Identify and evaluate funding possibilities for Polytechnique Montréal’s international activities and for its targeted partners via external sources;
  • Collaborate closely with organizations responsible for establishing international university rankings;
  • See to the development of relations with the Fondation et Alumni de Polytechnique Montréal, to cultivate links with alumni abroad and assist them in their role of as the institution’s ambassador.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Graduate-level University degree in an appropriate discipline.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in international or intergovernmental relations, as well as experience directing international development activities, in connection with the higher educational sector, in industry, or in economic promotion, if possible in the context of diplomatic missions abroad (preferably in the English-speaking world.)

Areas of Expertise

  • Relational skills to represent Polytechnique Montréal nationally and internationally, and to establish links at the highest level (ex: leaders, university leaders, ministers, ambassadors, company heads, etc.);
  • Inter-professional skills to establish and maintain quality links with Polytechnique’s teaching and non-teaching community;
  • Relational skills to cultivate and obtain collaboration within foreign contact networks, for the establishment of national and international partnerships;
  • Excellent knowledge of institutional programs related to internationalization;
  • French and English fluency, both written and oral. Knowledge of other languages considered ​an asset;
  • Facility in terms of promoting educational and research activities in universities;
  • Ability to work in a team, and manage high-level professional resources;
  • Possess excellent verbal and oral communication skills.
