Christophe Guy appointed to new term as CEO

Michèle Thibodeau-DeGuire, Principal and Chair of the Polytechnique Board of Directors, is proud to announce the appointment, by order-in-council, of Christophe Guy as Chief Executive Officer of Polytechnique Montréal for a new four-year term effective June 1, 2015. 

Mr. Guy holds a PhD (1989) and an MScA (1984) in chemical engineering from Polytechnique Montréal, and has been a professor with the school since 1996. He was Director of the Department of Chemical Engineering from 1995 to 2001, then Dean of Research and Innovation from 2001 to 2007. He fortified the institution with world-class infrastructure and helped position it as an engineering research and innovation leader in Canada. 

Christian GuySince 2007, this fervent defender of technology transfer has led Polytechnique Montréal with skill and success, always holding as central the diversity and the quality of the teaching and training activities provided. Mr. Guy is active within the major Montréal industry clusters, and has developed and maintained productive ties between Polytechnique and industry in recent years. His efforts have focused on Polytechnique's development and revitalization. This has made it possible, among other things, to resolve the difficult budgetary and financial situation that Polytechnique was facing, and to improve the efficiency of its activities, in terms of both support work and teaching and research work. In pursuit of Polytechnique's mission, Mr. Guy has especially supported the hiring of new professors and faculty lecturers as well as high-quality staff. He is recognized for his clear vision and his knowledge of many files, and he stands by strong university values such as academic collegiality. Polytechnique's reputation and renown have continued to grow thanks to its community members' activities and achievements.

Christophe Guy is currently the Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Consortium for Research and Innovation in Aerospace in Québec (CRIAQ) and a co-founder of the Consortium for Aerospace Research and Innovation in Canada (CARIC). He sits on the boards of numerous organizations including the Montréal Science Centre Foundation and the Société de développement Angus.

As a professor, researcher and expert in the environmental field, Mr. Guy is author or co-author of more than 110 scientific papers and eight patents. He has supervised and graduated, alone or in collaboration, 38 student researchers (master's and doctorate). He is a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, a Member of the Order of Canada and an Officer of the Ordre national du Québec.
