Jean-Marie Gagné is an emeritus professor in the Department of Engineering Physics. He specializes in spectroscopy and photonics.

His research career has included studies of optogalvanic spectroscopy and gas-phase laser-induced retrofluorescence spectroscopy. Glass-vapour interfaces have featured prominently in his work, for example, in aerodynamic trapping and laser heating of glass.

He is also the author of a book chronicling the history of the Department of Engineering Physics.
