Laboratory for multiscale mechanics



This laboratory is under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Therriault and Prof. Martin Lévesque, who are both of them attached to the Deparment of Mechanical Engineering (Applied Mechanics) of Polytechnique Montreal.

Most of our studies are done in the following rooms : A.110 (Main Building), 5133, 5135 and 5137 (JAB Building).

We specialize in the fabrication and characterization of composite, plastic, metallic and organic materials at the "nano", "micro" and "macro" scales.

This laboratory is the only one in Canada to offer those systems and equipments :

  • micro and nano-station for direct write fabrication,
  • equipments and resources to develop advanced materials,
  • high performance optical microscope,
  • tri-dimensional systems inspection station,
  • and a laser deposition system.

We also operate macroscopic-scale characterization equipment. These allow the determination of short- or long-term mechanical behavior under various load and temperature conditions.

These experimental capabilities can be used to model complex systems and materials with more accuracy. Numerical simulations results can be verified with controlled experimental data and the models' reliability is therefore improved.
