Polytechnique Montréal offers its student community an exceptional study and living environment thanks to its modern infrastructures, its vibrant campus worthy of the largest North American universities and its prime location in the heart of Montreal – a warm, multicultural and cosmopolitan metropolis that ranks year after year among the best university cities in the world.

MODERN INSTALLATIONS THAT FOSTER LEARNING 

Polytechnique Montréal consists of the Main Pavilion (inaugurated in 1958 / 71,650 m2), the J.-Armand-Bombardier Pavilion (inaugurated in 2004 / 13,803 m2) as well as the Lassonde pavilions (inaugurated in 2005 / 32,700 m2). 

These pavilions offer our student community a modern, lively and bright study environment, classrooms equipped with the latest audiovisual technologies, cutting-edge research infrastructures, a space for creation and entrepreneurship open to all (PolyFab Normand Brais), collaborative workspaces, computer labs with access to numerous software, a library which boasts one of the largest documentary collections in science and engineering in Quebec (Bibliothèque Louise-Lalonde-Lamarre), a coop shop offering a wide variety of school and computer materials (Coopoly) and several places to buy snacks and meals. The combination of all these elements guarantees optimal conditions for the richest student experience. 

A UNIVERSITY CAMPUS AT THE HEART OF THE ACTION 

With more than 9,700 students, Polytechnique is part of the Université de Montréal campus, which has close to 67,000 students. The campus also includes HEC Montréal. 

A true city within a city, the campus offers members of the student community a range of services that will enrich their experience, including a leading sports centre (CEPSUM), a medical clinic and personalized healthcare services, more than 1,120 student apartments (ZUM – Résidences étudiantes de l’Université de Montréal) and a diversified program of social and cultural activities. 

Located in the heart of Mont Royal and its green spaces, in a diverse neighbourhood near the city centre, the campus is bordered by Chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges, with its bustling businesses and services (restaurants, cafes, grocery stores, shops, medical clinics). You can reach the campus on foot or by bike, metro, bus or car. Whether you enjoy nature or the hustle and bustle of the city, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for... The metropolis welcomes close to 50,000 international students every year. What’s more, Montréal offers a stimulating cultural life, countless sports activities, splendid green spaces, and a bilingual, welcoming, inclusive and open-minded population. 

For many years now, Montréal has been brimming with knowledge, innovation and high technology. It stands out for the dynamism of its labour market as well as its low unemployment rate, which encourages more and more international students to settle permanently in the metropolis to begin their careers.

GETTING AROUND 

Nothing could be easier than getting around Montréal and its suburbs, as the city has an extensive public transit network, offering its population several travel options. In addition to its 4 metro lines and 68 stations (STM), its multiple bus routes (STM) and commuter trains (EXO), the city will also soon have the brand new Réseau express métropolitain (REM), an electric light metro system that will include 26 stations. In addition to being served by 3 metro stations on the blue line (Université-de-Montréal station, Édouard-Montpetit station, Côte-des-Neiges station) and several bus routes, Polytechnique and its campus will also have a REM station (Édouard-Montpetit station), which will provide direct access to Poly. The ride from Poly to downtown Montréal will be less than 5 minutes. 

Montréal also has an extensive network of bike paths and is the home of BIXI, a self-service bike-sharing system. Its pedestrian network also includes 32 kilometres underground, allowing users to escape the winter cold. Students generally enjoy preferential rates for most services.

    FINDING A PLACE TO LIVE 

    Despite the high occupancy rate in Montréal, housing options are abundant and Poly students usually manage to quickly find a place to live, regardless of where they’re looking. To facilitate your search, Polytechnique has set up a page with several resources that will help you find the apartment or roommate of your dreams!

    Polytechnique students can also rent a studio at ZUM – Résidences étudiantes de l’Université de Montréal, which is only a two-minute walk from Poly. The number of rooms is very limited, however.
