Research areas description
The EDDEC Institute aims to support and promote training, research, action and outreach in environment, sustainable development and circular economy at Polytechnique Montréal, Université de Montréal and HEC Montréal, in an effort to foster partnerships and interactions between the three institutions and the community. Created in spring 2014, the EDDEC Institute endeavours to bring together sector experts in its three founding institutions and includes 200 research units (laboratories, groups, centres, chairs, etc.), 400 professors and researchers and 1 000 graduate students.
The Institute has the means to lead projects driven by true interdisciplinarity and an ongoing dialogue with stakeholders and therefore remains open to new perspectives. This approach is reflected in the organization's three areas of intervention:
- Research, which enables the Institute to capitalize on the comprehensiveness of the disciplines and the depth of the expertise in the three founding institutions to initiate ESDCE projects;
- Training, which chiefly aims to enrich the curriculum for current and future students in ESDCE;
- Outreach, transfer and dialogue, which constitute means by which the Institute can serve the community by contributing to the creation of knowledge and solutions and taking part in public debates in collaboration with national and international stakeholders in order to foster the emergence of truly sustainable development.
