Approach

The Centre risque & performance (CRP) uses a preventive approach that allows the consideration of all possible risks, whether technological, natural or human. Based on the evaluation of acceptable consequences of the potential degradation of a resource or the failure of a Critical Infrastructure (CI), the CRP distinguishes itself of traditional risk analysis. The CRP responds to the needs of its public and private partners by developing emergency planning and business continuity tools. This work leads to new challenges linked to the evaluation of the resilience of organizations in a context of climate change and sustainable development.

Objectives

  • Develop a methodology of interdependency evaluation and modeling between Critical Infrastructure and   management of cascading effects;

  • Create operational planning tools of emergency measures and business continuity in order to respond to   the potential failure of a Critical Infrastructure in a single socio-economic environment;

  • Develop a methodology that will evaluate organizational resiliency;

  • Validate and integrate the CRP tools into day-to-day professional activities of the manufacturing industry and to small and medium-sized enterprise;

  • Train highly qualified personnel in the risk management and analysis field, in organizational resiliency and interdependency evaluation.

Program

1- Research and Development

  • Develop a web-based tool dedicated to the modeling in time and space of cascading effects between Critical Infrastructure;

  • Conceive evaluation tools of the vulnerability of infrastructures and CI facilities to climate change;

  • Develop analysis and diagnosis tools of the resilience potential of an organization (manufacturing industry, small and medium-sized enterprise, large-scale buildings);

2- training

  • The program is open to graduate students and aims to develop leading-edge expertise in emergency management, resiliency and business continuity.

The Centre is directed by Professor Benoît Robert. As of 2011, the Centre comprised of 10 students, including 3 at a doctoral level, 4 at a master level and 3 interns, as well as 3 research associates.
