October 25th 2009 - Some problems, but still in the race!

Yesterday, after getting some trouble with the DC-DC converter, the team has been constrained to tow the car to Katherine, the first check point. But the latest news are encouraging : today, the electrical responsibles had successfully repaired the problem and have been able to full the battery to be ready for an exciting third day of race!

It is also possible to watch the start of the GGC online.


October 24th 2009 - The GGC departure!

Esteban will leave Darwin in direction of Adelaide in less than 2 hours after a hard week of work on the car. With a slight delay, the scruteenering had occured yesterday. The verdict... the car is ready for the race! Indeed, it reached about 96km/h - despite that a solar panel peels off and few minor details quickly fixed.

Currently at Darwin, it is Sunday 7:00am and the temperature is around 25°C. We wish good luck to Esteban on his second participation in the GGC!


October 8th 2009 - the day before

The Esteban participants who will take part in the Green Global Challenge (formerly called World Solar Challenge) will take their flight tomorrow for Darwin, Australia. As soon as they arrive, the team will take up the solar car and check all the components to ensure that everything is still working correctly given that it has crossed an ocean to reach Australia!

During competition, our team will have two vehicles for moving and security purpose during the race, in addition to a truck that will carry every tools useful to repair the car in case of breakdown on the way to Adelaide.

Anytime, you will be able to follow the team by accessing the website competitio.com/esteban which will display Esteban position during the whole competition.

October 2nd 2009 - Already a new team

Since the beginning of the semester new blood has joined the team for the design and making of the upcoming prototype. It seems that the next competition Esteban will be the North American Challenge of 2012 which will give the team a little more than two years to build the car.


August 22th 2009 - Esteban's next stop : Australia!

Now ready, the car has been crated and shipped in a cargo boat for Australia. Two months will be necessary for the boat to reach Darwin, the starting point for the World Solar Challenge (WSC). It will allow the Esteban team to complete the logistic organisation of this trip.


August 10th 2009 - Invitation to road tests this Thursday at Polytechnique...

In a week, the vehicule will be on cruise to Australia where the World Solar Challenge will be held. There are some last minute testing to do. We are inviting you on thursday the 13th of august from 9:00 to 12:00 AM to see the team work on the car. This will be a great opportunity to see the car rolling before the competition. These tests will be held at the parking lot of École Polytechnique.

We'll be waiting for you!


July 23th 2009 - A small step for man and a big one for Esteban!

For some months now, Esteban worked relentlessly for the next competition, the World Solar Challenge (WSC), where prototype V will cross the roads of Australia in October. Although the competition is in three months time, the car will be sent in only one month by boat to the land of our friend Skippy the bush kangouroo. Click on the link to take a look.

May 24th, 2009 - Preparation of infusion

Esteban team is still working very hard to achieve the next shell for the beginning of June. The top shell mold is almost ready for the infusion. The mix of carbon and Kevlar fiber had been reflect. The mechanical team is ready to buy what they need. The infusion will be done very soon.

April 16th, 2009 - Second mold now completed

Even at the end of the semester at Polytechnique, Esteban members are still giving their best. Last week, the mold for the bottom shell has been completed and carried to Verbom for machining. Some pictures have been added to the album. Go take a look!


April 6th, 2009 - Solar cell encapsulation

Solar cells made of Silicone offered by China Sunergy have been encapsulated by Centiennal Solar, a company located in Montreal. The team has almost finished the second mold for the bottom shell that will be send to Verbom this week for machining. Esteban is eager to lay the solar panel on the new shell to begin the tests of the new vehicle!


March 30th, 2009 - thanks

Esteban would like to thank China Sunergy, the chinese company that provides the new solar cells for the next vehicle Esteban V.


March 22th, 2009 - two molds for a new shell

The team of Esteban has begun to build two molds that will be use to build the new shell of the new solar car, Esteban V. These molds are currently machined by Verbom, a company located south of Montreal in Valcourt city. Then, the team will proceed to the new shell infusion. Check out the new photos...


September 24th, 2008 - Project Ecosphere

The weekend of the September 27th is coming fast and Esteban is still going out for another event. This time, we have scheduled to be at Brome for the Project Ecosphere. This is an environmental fair that gathers the "key players in the environmental world".

September 21th, 2008 - Chez Queux restaurant

Jointly sold by La Forfaiterie and Esteban by auction, the package for two persons includes a supper, a wine bottle and the tip to the well-known Chez Queux restaurant in the Old Montréal. September 21th, 2008 - In town without my car!

Tomorrow, on september 22th, will take place the In town without my car! day, organized by the AMT. Esteban will be there all day long. You will be able to find us at the intersection of St-Alexandre and Ste-Catherine streets in Montreal downtown area (map of the site). In the morning, Salut Bonjour broadcast will welcome the team.


August 16th, 2008 - Grand Prix De Trois-Rivières

Esteban is exposing the solar vehicle at Trois-Rivières where the Grand Prix is currently taking place during all the weekend.

July 12th, 2008 - Next event

For the end of the summer, Esteban is going to camp in the tourist region of Bas-St-Laurent. The city of Trois-Pistoles will host for another year the Festival ÉchoFête, an ecologic festival that promotes environmental protection. It is the first time that our vehicle is going that far for a promotional event. Only few members of the team are going to take part in the ÉchoFête festival to encourage solar energy as an alternative energy source. The two days during wich the team will respond to any questions are July 26th and 27th.

Festival ÉchoFête is taking place July 23th to 27th 2008 at Trois-Pistoles. For further informations, their website are available at echofete.ca.


June 3rd, 2008 - Salon national de l'envionnement

For a third year, the Salon national de l'environnement (SNE) will open its doors at the Vieux-Port of Montreal. From June 13th to 15th next week, thousands of people will come to see some of hundreds of stalls that will be present at SNE. For sure, Esteban will be part of that occasion!
