Patrick Terriault, graduated in 1993 from École Polytechnique de Montréal as a mechanical engineer, undertakes his doctoral studies on the modeling of shape memory alloys. He finishes his doctorate in 1997 and receives the award for the thesis of the year of Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal. From January 1998 to May 1999, Dr. Terriault continues his works on shape memory alloys within the CRASP as a research associate. In June 1999, he becomes a professor at the mechanical engineering department of École de Technologie Supérieure. In addition to the modeling of shape memory alloys, professor Terriault widen his fields of expertise by working on the experimental characterization of these particular materials and the design of new shape memory industrial applications. In 2001, he founded, with professor Brailovski of Ecole de Technologie Superieure, a research laboratory (LAMSI – Shape memory and intelligent systems research laboratory) with the specific mission to promote the implementation of shape memory alloys in new industrial applications.

Actual research interests

  • Finite elements and numerical methods in engineering
  • Experimental characterisation of nonlinear materials (shape memory alloys, adaptive composites, porous materials)
  • Modelling of the complex behaviour of nonlinear structures (shape memory alloys, adaptive composites, porous materials)
