Biography

Dr. Akbarzadeh Shafaroudi is an Assistant Professor in Machine Design in the Bioresource Engineering Department and an Associate Member in the Mechanical Engineering Department of McGill University. He is also an Honorary Research Associate in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of New Brunswick. Dr. Akbarzadeh Shafaroudi joined the Bioresource Engineering Department of McGill University in 2015 after working as an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Mechanical Engineering Departments of McGill University and the University of New Brunswick for about two and half years. He completed his PhD studies in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of New Brunswick in 2013. Prior to his PhD, he graduated as an MSc student in the Mechanical Engineering Department (Solid Mechanics) of Amirkabir University of Technology in 2009 and as a BSc student in the Mechanical Engineering Department (Solid Mechanics) of Isfahan University of Technology in 2007. Inspired by biological systems where structural properties are integrated with sensing, actuating, and self-healing, Dr. Akbarzadeh Shafaroudi’s research interest is on advanced multifunctional materials. Due to the multidisciplinary framework of multifunctional materials, the research spans mechanical, civil, electrical, and biological engineering concepts and is also of interest to material scientists, mathematicians, and physicists. Dr. Akbarzadeh Shafaroudi is specifically interested in the multiphysics and multiscale simulation of multiferroic cellular solids, smart and biocomposites, and functionally graded materials using theoretical/computational and experimental methodologies. The application of the research is in energy harvesting, structural health monitoring, green energy production, and sustainable design for various sectors including automotive, aerospace, agriculture/forestry, and construction industry.
