Polytechnique Montréal is one of Canada’s leading teaching and research institutions, with over 7,500 students and over 1,000 employees. Its Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering is seeking candidates to fill one (1) position as professor of industrial engineering.
With 46 professors and 9 teachers, the Department of Mathematics and Industrial Engineering dispenses all of the school’s service courses in mathematics and complementary studies, an undergraduate program, professional master’s course and specialized graduate programs (DESS) in industrial engineering, and master’s research and doctoral programs in industrial engineering and applied mathematics.
Area of expertise: production scheduling and inventory management
Applicants must have qualifications in planning, scheduling and overseeing production and logistics systems. The successful applicant will develop research activities within the CIRRELT research centre, in his or her area of specialization in relation to one or more of the following activities:
- Production management or logistics through the application of concepts related to big data mining, optimization, simulation or artificial intelligence.
- Manufacturing management and logistics information systems.
The research activities should be applicable to manufacturing, services, transportation, etc.
The professor must energetically and creatively perform the position’s tasks, including: participating in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, notably in teaching modern production techniques at the undergraduate level, supervising graduate students, conducting innovative research projects, and collaborating with internal research teams and with industry. The professor must have initial training in industrial engineering and must be able to develop an original and multidisciplinary research program, integrated with the Department’s industrial engineering research activities.
Applicants must hold an industrial engineering degree or the equivalent, a doctorate (Ph.D.) in a relevant field, and be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or become a member in the first year of employment. Industrial experience is an asset.
Since the language of instruction is French, the candidates must demonstrate proficiency in French or the willingness to acquire a working knowledge of French before obtaining tenure.
