2015 Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC): Polytechnique ranks second and third in two categories
The competition took place at Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, March 5 to 8.
The Polytechnique winners:
PolyDébat
Second place in the Extemporaneous Debate category
The oral debate team, made up of Adam Samson and Farell Rocher, won three victories in the Canadian tournament and made it to the finals. The team lost the finals to the University of Saskatchewan.
Camille Hamelin and Sophie Dagenais
Third place in the Communications Engineering category
The team was asked to discuss a technical engineering subject in lay terms. The presentation was limited to 30 minutes. The team finished third in the Communications Engineering category for its presentation on the subject of shale gas, behind McGill University (second place) and the University of Alberta (first place).
Polytechnique was also represented in the Innovative Design category by PolyProject. This highly technical category asks competitors to present a unique solution to a problem they have chosen themselves. The evaluation is based on the overall engineering process, including a market study, feasibility studies and prototype design.
However, the team, which took second place in the Québec Engineering Competition (QEC) 2015 in February with its Hooke
Tensio robot, did not succeed in reaching the top ranks this time.
The Canadian Engineering Competition is a renowned event that has brought together the best and brightest engineering students
from across the country since 1985. It offers a unique opportunity for students and industry and university representatives to
meet in a professional and competitive setting. Through a variety of events testing technical, communication and design skills,
the event's goal is to discern the individuals who have the potential to become future leaders in the profession.
Congratulations to the Polytechnique students!
