CFI and Gouvernement du Québec award nearly $800,000 to finance a research infrastructure project at Polytechnique Montréal

The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) announced, on January 24, 2012, an investment of nearly $400,000 to finance facilities for research on coatings and surface engineering. This is in addition to a subsidy for an identical amount from the Gouvernement du Québec. 


Polytechnique Montréal project – Financing of infrastructure related to an NSERC Industrial Research Chair

Project leader: Professor Ludvik Martinu, Full Professor in the Department of Engineering Physics

Subsidy from the CFI: $399,395

Subsidy from the Gouvernement du Québec: $399, 395

The research work conducted by Professor Martinu's team focuses on developing a new generation of clean vacuum-based technologies for the synthesis of coatings and nanostructured systems for their use in various sectors of vital importance toCanada.  Thanks to the subsidies from the FCI and the Gouvernement du Québec, the research infrastructure will enable researchers to perform leading-edge investigation on functional coatings and advanced materials in a world-class setting.

About the CFI announcement

The CFI will invest a total of $33 million to support research work, with funding for 132 research projects in 31 institutions. From leading-edge medical technology to the latest business and finance technology, this investment will support the work of researchers at universities across the country.
