What is BibTeX?
BibTeX is a LaTeX auxiliary software that may be used to :
- Enter and manage and personal bibliographic databases citations
- Import references from one or many bibliographic databases;
- Cite references in the body of a text ;
- Create a bibliography at the end of a text
- Enter manually or automatically references from databases such as Compendex, Web of Science, Google Scholar, etc, or from other personnal reference managers such as EndNote, Zotero et JabRef
- Distinguish between the content (bibliographic references) and the format (bibliographic style)
- Format bibliographies with different citation styles
Why use BibTeX?
- It is recommended by scientific community for managing large bibliographic databases.
- It allows for bibliographic data sharing between users and to use many bibliographic files in the same document.
- It is a recognized standard, as it allows to adapt the bibliography to the styles required by scientific publishers (it’s style sheets are supported by the many important scientific journals)
